Bulldog Show News UK&Europe European Correspondant for Sourmug Magazine now sadly out of production ,this article was to be number 13 by the Author Vicky Collins Visit my website The Summer has passed quite quickly ,we have had to have our male Bonifacio Genie's leg operated on after an accident, he skidded and pulled his leg badly ,it was a neat job and we had hopes to show him again but it developed an abscess and he has been really ill,we are still waiting to see if he will walk on it again ,it has meant we haven't entered the shows as we intended. I took my Bonifacio Sorciere at Kezia(see the above picture of us ) to several shows but despite looking nice she looks small compared to the others but she will be close on standard by the time she matures ,maybe I should bring her stateside !!!!
Reporting on…………….. The Blackpool championship show held on Friday 25th June 2004 This was a lovely venue, and the day was quite warm but had good cooling breeze held in the open air,118 entries the usual absentees due to it being Friday a working day, but most classes had a good attendance .The Judge was Mr Kazuo Onishi from Japan, he speaks little English and has an interpreter with him,It was a most exciting day for Dawn Mantle as at only her second time out with Joux Noel (the first time was when I gave her Best of Breed at an Open show) her first Championship Show she went best Bitch getting her first CC then Best of Breed .....there was much celebrating and cheering ! Windsor Championship Show
The Windsor Dog Show is my most favourite summer show, one I highly recommend to the visitors from the Usa( or the rest of the world) Combining a well organised superb dog show with the history and the royal connections ,whatever could be more fascinating for a tourist /bulldogger than this venue, overlooked by Windsor Castle . There are beautiful buildings in the town , the river is winding its way alongside the road, swans and boats making an unforgetable totally picturesque just like a picture post card scene . The dog show committee wear Bowler hats and greet you at the gate, very smart , the tents and trade stands are well set out and the atmosphere is rather special too. It was an early start for us leaving home 6am as the journey takes 3 and a half hours and judging started at 10 am , to get to this venue from London one would think that the train would be a good way as its actually walking distance[about 20 mins ] to the show ground from the station ,maybe would avoid the sometimes horrendous traffic jams in this area of the country. The weather kept clouding over but the rain kept off, we were under a covered tent with open sides so it was shaded ,the ringside was packed with onlookers . The judge of the day was Mrs Ferelith Somerfield, a well respected all rounder who has been in dogs all her life, is the chairman of Dogs World Newspaper , to me I will always remember she gave a talk on what NOT to do when judging at a Seminar years ago, it was hilarious and involved wearing loud clothes, big jangly jewellery, hats with huge brims, smoking on the job , a bottle of whiskey for a quick nip in between judging ,a transistor radio tuned to the horse racing ,chatting about things to exhibitors she knew !!!!..we were in stitches but never forgot what she told us ! She had a great entry of 114 dogs and few absentees, the biggest class of the day was puppy bitch where 19 of the 22 entered turned up , it was a shame that there was only Puppy most shows of this status have Minor Puppy also which gives the babies a chance against the ones that are ready to move up .It was a good day for Kevin Davies,Mystyle and Norman Davies Ocobo , they are showing about 6 dogs at every show and are picking up top awards with most of them that has made it very hard for the rest of us !!!British pride and Calibra are also in the line up consistently ,competition is hard. The bitch CC winner Fordfantasy Devon Lilly was made up into a champion but its quite sad as her owner /breeder had sold her to Lyn Manns so she didn’t have that final excitement of handling her to her championship ,but it was a very popular win with good ringside appreciation from the onlookers . The main results are listed below
